Eighth Street Elementary School was originally constructed in 1914 and is the oldest elementary school in continuous service in Florida. The building is on the National Historic Register and located within a nationally dedicated Historic District. Renovations consisted of complete building systems replacement of mechanical, electric, plumbing, data/communications, flooring, windows, and all interior finishes. New additions included a three-stop elevator, fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems. Care was taken to make these improvements while simultaneously enhancing the original historic beauty of the building, which includes 10′ high windows, 14′ high ceilings, and wood floors. The exterior work encompasses a complete window replacement, brick cleanup and pointing, as well as landscaping to further accentuate the historic fabric of the surrounding neighborhood.
