The existing jail was originally designed with (4) pods in the mid 1970’ s to house 350 inmates and was outdated very soon after it was opened. Our firm was retained to provide a study to see what was needed, when it was needed and how to implement those recommendations within a $31 million dollar budget. Our 185,000 square foot solution was designed to house a maximum of 2,500 inmates. Our design extended a central corridor and provided for (5) different buildings as well as the relocation of the medical and kitchen facilities into the new portion of the work. The existing 20,000 sq. ft. was remodeled into juvenile and female areas that were previously under served. The new kitchen has state of the art appliances that can handle food preparation and cooking very quickly and efficiently. The kitchen typically serves approximately 7,500 meals a day.
