This 4,924 sq. ft. fire station for Lake County was designed in a rural area that needed the services of professional fire fighters and paramedics, rather than the volunteers that had previously provided service. This station was designed as a two bay facility that can handle four pieces of equipment and full time fire services personnel. The picturesque setting was a difficult site due to its propensity for flooding and poor soil conditions. Our solution was a combination of removing poor soils, with an augmented foundation and slab to handle possible settlement and movement after construction. The facility itself was designed for the 24 hour, 7 days a week multi-shift operations; it includes sleeping and living quarters, as well as offices and dispatch spaces. Low maintenance materials were a priority for this facility, and we designed with split faced CMU and a standing seam roof system.
